What to look for and what to ask. Or ask Rocky anything about home builders.
How to choose a home builder.
What to ask before you hire, from Rocky.
Custom, semi-custom and production builders across Alberta, from city infills to acreage homes. Use this checklist when you compare home builders, then ask Rocky if you want a second opinion.
- Check their builder licence on the province's New Home Buyer Protection public registry.
- Ask which warranty provider covers their homes and walk through the coverage.
- Tour a finished home or show home before you sign.
- Get at least two written quotes that list scope, materials, schedule and payment stages.
- Contractors who take money before the work is finished need an Alberta prepaid contracting licence. Ask for the number before you pay a deposit.
- Ask for a WCB Alberta clearance letter and proof of liability insurance.
- Read recent reviews and ask for references from jobs like yours.
