Privacy Policy
Build Alberta ("we", "us", "our") is a guide to Alberta's home builders, new communities and home-service trades. We respect your privacy. This policy explains, in plain English, what information we collect, why we collect it, and how you can reach us about it.
What we collect
- Information you give us. When you send a quote request, book a call, contact a business through one of our pages, or sign up for updates, we collect what you type in: your name, email address, phone number, and your message.
- Information from businesses. When a business claims or creates its listing, we collect the business details it gives us (name, contact details, services, service areas, photos and descriptions).
- Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we collect basic technical information such as your browser type, device, pages viewed and approximate location (from your IP address). We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how the site is used.
- Conversations with Rocky. Rocky is our AI guide. Questions you ask Rocky, and the answers given, may be stored so we can improve the guide and, where you ask to be connected, pass your request to the right business.
How we use it
- To pass your request to the business you asked about, so they can reply to you.
- To operate, secure and improve the site and the Rocky guide.
- To keep listings accurate and up to date.
- To send you updates you asked for. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information.
Who we share it with
- The business you contact. When you send a quote or call request through a listing, we share your name, contact details and message with that business so they can respond. If the business has not yet claimed its listing, your request is held by the Build Alberta team, who will follow up with you and the business.
- Service providers. We use trusted providers to host the site, store data, send email and run analytics. They only process information on our behalf and under our instructions.
- Legal reasons. We may share information if required by law or to protect our rights, our users or the public.
Cookies
We use essential cookies that make the site work, and privacy-respecting analytics. Third-party content embedded on some pages (for example maps, videos or social posts) may set their own cookies under their own policies.
How long we keep it
We keep quote and contact requests for as long as needed to serve you and the business you contacted, and to keep reasonable business records. You can ask us to delete your information at any time.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or withdraw consent to updates, by emailing us at the address below. We will respond within a reasonable time and in line with Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada's PIPEDA.
Children
Build Alberta is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
