How to choose a carpenter.
What to ask before you hire, from Rocky.
Finish and framing carpenters for trim, stairs, built-ins and repairs. Use this checklist when you compare carpenters, then ask Rocky if you want a second opinion.
- Ask for photos of finish work similar to yours.
- Ask whether they are a certified journeyperson carpenter.
- Get at least two written quotes that list scope, materials, schedule and payment stages.
- Contractors who take money before the work is finished need an Alberta prepaid contracting licence. Ask for the number before you pay a deposit.
- Ask for a WCB Alberta clearance letter and proof of liability insurance.
- Read recent reviews and ask for references from jobs like yours.
